Campaign against NATO Summit and imperialist aggression

Intellectuals, artists, and workers has launched a campaign demanding the cancellation of the July NATO Summit in Ankara and the closure of all US and NATO bases.

Campaign against NATO Summit and imperialist aggression

The flame of resistance against the NATO Summit, scheduled to take place in Ankara this July, and the imperialist aggression dragging both our region and the entire world toward destruction, is being lit tomorrow. A joint call to action, signed by intellectuals, artists, trade unionists, and labourers from every profession, will be announced at a press conference.

Following a preliminary meeting of intellectuals, artists, academics, trade unionists, journalists, and workers, the joint text prepared for the struggle against NATO will be presented to the public tomorrow (Friday, 3 April).

The meeting, which will take place at 12:00 at the Istanbul Bar Association Cultural Centre, is expected to establish a schedule of protests and events targeting the summit. The gathering aims to serve as the foundation for a broader forum at the end of April.

Intellectuals, artists, trade unionists, and workers...

The initial signatories of the call include a wide range of 68 prominent figures, including journalists, authors, literary figures, academics, musicians, theatre and cinema actors, trade unionists, representatives of mass organisations, lawyers, physicians, political scientists, and human rights defenders.

Summit must be cancelled, bases must be closed

The call exposes the aggression of the US and Israel in the region and emphasises that Turkey must take concrete steps against these policies. Expressing strong opposition to the NATO summit being held in Ankara, the signatories demand the cancellation of the summit and the closure of NATO and US bases in Turkey. Furthermore, while calling for an end to shipments to Israel and insisting that Turkey should not be a party to regional conflicts, they issued a call to struggle against imperialist wars.
