The Ministry of Interior has officially suspended Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan following his arrest on charges of "extortion by compulsion," citing constitutional and legal mandates as the basis for this temporary administrative measure.

The Ministry of Interior announced that Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, who was arrested under the accusation of "extortion by compulsion," has been suspended from office.

In the written statement made by the Ministry, it was reminded that Özcan was arrested within the framework of the investigation conducted against him by the decision of the Bolu 2nd Criminal Court of Peace, dated 2 March 2026 and numbered 2026/48 Inquiry.

In the statement, it was reported that Özcan was suspended from his duty as a temporary measure in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipality Law No. 5393.
