Questions waiting to be answered about Deniz Poyraz's killer Onur Gencer

Onur Gencer, who attacked the HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) Izmir Provincial Building and murdered Deniz Poyraz, was arrested on 18 June. But there are many questions waiting to be answered.

Onur Gencer, who murdered Deniz Poyraz in an armed attack targeting the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Izmir Provincial Organization, was arrested on 18 June. The suspected killer showed no remorse, saying 'I feel relieved, let me go'. In his article, Gokcer Tahincioglu of T24 asked many questions such as how the killer came in comfortably despite the fact that a tent had been put up in front of the HDP building for 1.5 years, the Izmir Police Security Branch stood guard here, and the civilian policemen noted everyone going in and out of the building, and why the police did not intervene until the gunman came down the stairs and surrendered despite the sound of gunfire.

QUESTIONS WAITING FOR ANSWERS

In his article titled "Yuzlesme" (Confrontation), Gokcer Tahincioglu of T24 said that Onur Gencer, who murdered Deniz Poyraz, was intended to be framed with patterns like "A lone wolf attack, the personal action of a depressed person". But Tahincioglu claims that the issue is not so simple and he asks questions: "How he obtained a gun license, how he was not caught despite his armed photographs, how he spent months exploring the area in front of the police, who he received support and help from before the incident, how he was part of the medical team going to Syria, why he was not processed despite those photos, how he paid for the hotels he stayed in, where he got money for the guns."

Tahincioglu says he received some details in the investigative file of Gencer, who was arrested without even being detained for 24 hours, and information about his statements in the police and prosecutor's office.

"His statement made at the police station is 27 pages. In his statement, Gencer explains why he hates Kurds. It goes back to 1998. He claims that his late mother, was spoken to by HADEP (People's Democracy Party, predecessor of HDP, which was banned in 2003) election officials and threatened when she told them that she would not vote for HADEP. He's coming back from there to today. While working as a healthcare professional, he says he used a prescription drug without a prescription, that nurses from Siverek (a town with a predominantly Kurdish population) exposed it, that there was animosity between them. He doesn't hide his hatred. That's why he says he made a complaint, and he was under investigation. Because of this investigation, he says, he intended to kill two people, but he gave up thinking they were insignificant people. Gencer says that he was not influenced by anyone, but lists the names he intends to kill as Ocalan, Selahattin Demirtas, Baris Atay. He explains that he was very fond of guns, that after the idea of killing settled in his head, he went in search of a licensed gun and bought a licensed gun from Izmir in June last year. He says he's psychotic and on medication, but he was sane enough to give exactly the desired answers to the questions that were asked when he got the license by lying. He says he has been training with weapons from past to present and has trained frequently at the range. He also says that a man named Alican, whom he did not give his last name, trained him."

Onur Gencer's statement also shows that he often stayed in hotels, also the ones near the HDP Provincial Building, regularly observed the building, enrolled in a course and was able to explore the apartment where the HDP office was located. Asks how Gencer had been able to camp outside the HDP Provincial Building for one-and-a-half years while not being conspicuous Tahincioglu stresses Gencer's lack of remorse.

HOW DID THE KILLER GET INSIDE COMFORTABLY?

"It is clear that the terrorist Gencer did not act alone, but he will be made to look like he did. There is a reason why these terrorists are carefully selected, protected, and why their hate crimes and photos with arms are tolerated. As there is a reason why they were sent to Syria... We don't know how many terrorists like this are out there, how many more potential killers have been trained. And what more can the hate language of those who create this environment where every attack against the HDP is tolerated... " Tahincioglu asks:

How did the killer get in comfortably, despite the fact that a tent had been set up in front of the HDP building for one-and-a-half years and the Izmir Police Security Branch stood guard here, and the plainclothes policemen at the entrance to the building noted everyone going in and coming out?Why wasn't the killer intervened until he came down the stairs and surrendered, even though there were gunshots from the distance you could hear? Why were the detention processes completed and why was the killer referred to the courthouse without a thorough investigation? Why was he arrested so quickly?Who deleted the killer's posts after the murder after he was taken into custody? Who shut down his social media account? Was there any other weapons in the bag he brought with him?How did the killer know there'd be a meeting at that time under normal circumstances? Why didn't the internet police take action against the gunman who posted photos with guns?
