Evrensel's Former Managing Editor Cem Şimşek's trial for "insulting the President" was postponed

Evrensel's Former Managing Editor Cem Şimşek's trial for "insulting President Tayyip Erdoğan" was postponed to 31 October.

First hearing of the trial where Evrensel''s former Managing Editor Cem Şimşek face “insulting the President Tayyip Erdoğan” charges for a news story on German cartoonists who drew Erdoğan was held at Bakırköy 27th Criminal Court of First Instance today.

Lawyer Devrim Avcı stated that the court should rule for non-jurisdiction and send the case-file over to the 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance, which handles crimes committed via press. The court will review this request between hearings, trial adjourned till Oct 31st. (EVRENSEL DAILY)
