The Labour Party (EMEP) from Turkey and the Communist Liberation organisation from Greece issued a joint call for struggle against regional and international war alliances, declaring, "We refuse to fight for the interests of the bourgeoisie." The statement emphasised the right of peoples to self-determination and included demands for an end to the occupation in Palestine and for an independent, free, and unified Cyprus.

"We consider it vital to build a united, international anti-war workers' movement to oppose militarisation and dismantle capitalist war agendas," the statement said.

Full text of the joint declaration:

"Imperialists are redrawing the world’s map and borders through war and force to serve their own interests and priorities. War and the use of force, as 'the continuation of politics by other means,' remain the primary tools for resolving competition and conflicts between capitalist states.

At the same time, governments and capitalists constantly redistribute wealth upwards to the 'upper class' at the expense of the working class and the majority of our societies—deepening inequality once again. Tax cuts for the bosses, low wages for workers, inflation, etc. The anti-democratic transformation of political systems goes hand in hand with the intensified exploitation of the working class. Authoritarianism, violence, and repression align with the broader capitalist aggression.

The global arms race is spiralling into madness in the interests of capital. The struggle for global dominance has decisively entered a war phase, and plans for 'war economies' worldwide are further proof of this. Money that cannot be found for public health, education, wage increases, or pensions suddenly appears in abundance for new weapons and war machines.

Trump’s policies and actions have already unleashed a wave of conflict. It would be dangerous—or at least naive—to assume that trade wars will not lead to new and larger conventional wars. Even the nuclear threat is on the table...

Turkey and Greece, for their part, are actively joining this new cycle of violence, hand in hand with imperialists. Their governments try to 'sell' nationalist and aggressive agendas to the peoples of both countries to conceal their real objectives: expanding spheres of influence in the region and securing greater profits for capitalists. The Greece-Cyprus-Israel axis and Turkey’s military interventions in Syria, Iraq, and Libya are dangerous developments for the oppressed peoples of the region and the working class in each country.

The threat of armed conflict in our region remains significant and imminent. However, we stand firm in our position: This competition in our region and on both sides of the Aegean is unjust and harms the peoples of the area, including those of Turkey and Greece.

We are determined to fight to stop this danger and threat:

In this context,

- We stand and fight for Greece and Turkey’s withdrawal from NATO and the destruction of all war alliances, including attempts to establish a 'European army' within the EU.
- We demand the immediate end of Israel’s occupation of all Palestinian territories, the release of all prisoners, and the unconditional right of return for Palestinian refugees.
- We support the right to self-determination for all peoples - Palestinians, Kurds, Syrians, Lebanese, Yemenis, etc. - without any external interference.
- We demand a free and unified Cyprus, where Turkish and Greek Cypriots can live in peace, free from foreign armies and military bases.
- We will devote all our energy and strength to defending the rights of the working classes, but we refuse to fight for the interests of the bourgeoisie.
- We oppose the international scramble - involving our countries - over hydrocarbon reserves in our region, despite their damage to the global climate. We advocate for clean and sustainable energy policies.
- As EMEP and Communist Liberation, we will strive to build active solidarity and cooperation, knowing well that 'united we stand, divided we fall.'
- We will seize every opportunity for solidarity and cooperation with other revolutionary and progressive parties and movements in our region, primarily targeting the exploitative classes in each country.
- We view the effort to build a united, international anti-war workers' movement against militarisation and capitalist war agendas as crucial. A truly independent working-class politics must remain separate from all imperialist blocs. A revolutionary workers' movement is only possible as an independent force fighting against the bourgeoisie and imperialists - against all imperialist blocs." (EVRENSEL DAILY)
