Suat Ozçağdaş faces imprisonment for photographing Fahrettin Altun's house
CHP Üsküdar District President Suat Özçağdaş is facing five years in prison for photographing Fahrettin Altun's house in Kuzguncuk.

The investigation into the photographing of Communications Director of Turkey’s President, Fahrettin Altun's house in Kuzguncuk* has been completed. The Anatolian Public Prosecutor's Office filed a lawsuit against CHP Üsküdar District President Suat Özçağdaş on charges of "violating privacy.”
Ozçagdaş will be facing a two to five year prison sentence if convicted.
NO SETTLEMENT, LAWSUIT FILED
The Prosecutor General's Office initially decided on arbitrating a settlement after concluding their investigation into the incident. The investigation regarding Özçağdaş was conducted by the Bureau of Investigation and Arbitration. However, a lawsuit was filed by the plaintiff Fahrettin Altun after arbitration efforts between himself and Özçağdaş were unable to achieve an agreement. Suat Özçağdaş will stand trial facing a two to five year prison sentence if convicted.
“I HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO MONITOR THE AREA”
Özçağdaş said in his statement taken within the scope of the investigation, "I took a picture of the area. I reported the situation to the Istanbul Provincial President and left the area. I don't even know where Altun's house is. As the District President for my party, I have a responsibility to monitor the area."
WHAT HAPPENED?
It was claimed that Fahrettin Altun carried out unauthorized construction on public land in Kuzguncuk, located in the Bosphorus Waterfront Zone. The CHP IBB Parliamentary Group, which filed a criminal complaint on the issue, demanded that Altun be sentenced to prison time from one to six months and be fined 200,000 to 500,000 liras, according to the relevant provisions of the Bosphorus Law.
Fahrettin Altun filed a criminal complaint against the newspaper Cumhuriyet, which raised the issue, and CHP Istanbul Provincial President Canan Kaftancıoğlu and CHP Üsküdar District President Suat Özçağdaş for violation of privacy.
