The work stoppage started following the work manslaughter in the Istanbul Airport cargo building on 31 October has yielded gains.

The demands have been met of the workers who stopped work after one of their colleagues at the Istanbul Airport construction site fell into a lift shaft and lost his life.

The workers halted work on 1 November seeking the taking of work safety measures. Negotiations took place between workers and company officials on the fourth day of the action. With demands for lighting of the construction site and enclosure of lift and shaft apertures with railings having been accepted, the workers started work.

Eighteen-year-old Mehmet Aydın lost his life having fallen into a lift shaft while working at the Istanbul Airport cargo building construction site on 31 October. (EVRENSEL DAILY)
