Teacher Ayşe, who was jailed for saying, “Don’t let children die,” was released following a “rights violation” ruling passed by the Constitutional Court.

Teacher Ayşe Çelik, who was jailed for fifteen months for having called into the Beyaz Show in 2015 at a time when curfews were in place in the region and said, “Don’t let children die.” Her sentence suspended three times, Çelik went to jail on 17 April. Çelik's lawyer Mahsuni Karaman said news had reached them that the Constitutional Court had “issued a rights violation ruling on Ayşe teacher.” Karaman indicated they would apply for the halting of the sentence based on this.

Karaman tweeted as follows:

“While not yet having seen the ruling, information has reached us that the Constitutional Court has ‘issued a rights violation ruling and has sent a copy of the ruling to the sentencing court for the violation to be rectified’ on Ayşe teacher’s application. We have applied for the halting of the sentence based on this.”

Benan Molu, Attorney-at-Law, quoting Karaman’s statement, pointed out that the Constitutional Court ruled that freedom of expression had been violated and noted that the ruling was the first violation ruling passed with reference to organization propaganda.

The ruling on Ayşe teacher was sent from the Constitutional Court to the court at which she was sentenced. The local court subsequently released Ayşe teacher in the evening. (EVRENSEL DAILY)
