Labour Party (EMEP) National Executive Committee (NEC) Member Metin İlgün died on Saturday.

58 year-old Ilgun was among EMEP's leading figures in Istanbul. He had undertaken many responsibilities at every level of the party.
He also took part in the foundation of Evrensel newspaper and the weekly Gercek magazine before that, working as a correspondent and editor in the workers-trade unions news.
Following the military coup in 1980, he was imprisoned for 11 years for his involvement in the TDKP (Revolutionary Communist Party of Turkey) case.
He was known to be an exemplary communist for his hard-working qualities and his loyalty to the working class struggle.
Ilgun was diagnosed with cancer a short time ago.

EMEP held a vigil at its Tuzla office on Sunday.  At the farewell ceremony where workers, youth and comrades took part, beside the coffin wrapped with the flag of the party "He was a revolutionary, he was a Communist, lived for the working class fight! He will live in our struggle." banner hanged. In the farewell ceremony, the slogan "Comrade Metin is Immortal", "Party is higher than the flag", "Work is freedom", "Long live revolution and socialism" and "Death to Fascism" were shouted.

His funeral will be in Dersim, his home town, on Monday. (EVRENSEL DAILY)
