Joint statement from EMEP, ÖDP, HE and TİP: The single-man regime is the name of the usurpation of will

Calls are growing for resistance to the usurpation of will done through the appointing of trustees in Van, Diyarbakır and Mardin.

In the written statement made by the Labour Party (EMEP), Freedom and Solidarity Party (ÖDP), People’s Houses (HE) and Workers’ Party of Turkey (TİP) on the eighteenth anniversary of the founding of the AKP, they said, “The single-man regime is the name of oppression, arbitrariness and the usurpation and loss of will” and condemned the trustees appointed in Diyarbakır, Mardin and Van. The statement read, “The single-man regime of the AKP, which has left behind the seventeenth year since its founding and of its rule, wishes once more to conceal its electoral defeat and downward trajectory in the most recent local election through trusteeship.”

TRUSTEE MUNICIPALITIES POINT TO DIMENSION OF WASTE

Drawing attention to the expenditure made in the previous trustee period, the statement notes, “From the three previous trustees, the debt exceeding one billion in Mardin, expenditure of 2,127,725 just on the official chamber and debt of one and a half billion lira that the trustee left in Van are but three examples of waste. These figures alone point to the dimensions of waste, plunder and rentiership involving municipal resources.”

The following was declared in the statement: “The single-man regime, which portrays the Syria quagmire and expansionist, failed and adventurist policies that are left drowning in negotiations as the issue of survival and equates the Kurdish people over the border on within our country with the notions of ‘terrorism and enemy’ wants in this way to strangle demands for democracy and the country’s agenda. The AKP, which aims to make the single-man regime dominate all fields and persists in this, imposes on society the rule of every town, unit and area by governors, civil servants and party chairs who resemble it and do not deviate from its word.

CALL TO ALL SECTIONS OF SOCIETY

The time is up for the AKP and single-man regime/rule but it is trying to stay on its feet with nothing but policies of oppression, prohibition and war. As the forces of labour and democracy who are our country’s true owners and representatives of the future, we call everyone to their duty to stand up for democracy and the will of the people.

The fight for democracy we displayed in the 31 March-23 June elections continues. We must stand up for our votes, will, cohabitation and fraternity.” (EVRENSEL DAILY)
