AKP member: We founded new state, founding leader is Erdoğan

Ayhan Oğan, a member of Central Decision and Administration Board (MKYK) of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has said a new state has been founded in Turkey by Erdoğan.

“Now we are founding a new state. You like it or do not like it, founding leader of this new state is [President Recep] Tayyip Erdoğan,” said Oğan during a programme aired by CNNTürk on Thursday evening.

The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy Aytuğ Atıcı reacted against the statement, as other participants of the TV programme asked when AKP destroyed Republic of Turkey which was founded by Atatürk.

Debate over regime of Turkey has been on agenda since constitutional amendments bringing an executive presidency was approved with a referendum on April 16.

A ruling AKP deputy, Metin Külünk, said on January 13 that the switch in Turkey to a presidential system would disable the “bureaucratic oligarchy” in the country and take revenge of the last 200 years.

Claiming Republic of Turkey came an end, another AKP deputy Tülay Babuşçu said in 2015 that “90 years of commercial break of 600 years long Ottoman Empire has ended.”

CHP DEPUTY FILED COMPLAINT

Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy Ali Şeker filed legal complaint against Ayhan Oğan. Ali Şeker filed a complaint against Oğan stating that his statements are unconstitional. Şeker stated that it took lots of effort for him to file the complaint due to alleged resistance of an office of prosecutor in İstanbul. The opposition deputy said that the remarks on live TV was a confession of the destruction of Turkey’s constitutional order. (EVRENSEL DAILY)
