As Israel’s attacks on Gaza continue unabated, efforts to break the siege and deliver humanitarian aid also persist. Days after the detention of 12 people from the Freedom Flotilla’s Madleen in international waters, those traveling to Egypt for the Global March to Gaza—planned from Cairo to the Rafah crossing—are now being deported. The silence of international institutions regarding the abduction of 12 individuals, including French EU Parliament Member Rima Hassan, and the events in Cairo continues.
In an interview with Evrensel, Marc Botenga, a member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Belgium’s Workers’ Party (PVDA), assessed the complicity of European institutions, particularly the European Union, in the genocide. Noting that even the abduction of a parliament member by Israel has gone uncondemned, Botenga stated, "Not imposing an embargo and maintaining relations is complicity in genocide."
